The Yes Album is the third studio album by English progressive rock band Yes, released on 19 February 1971 by Atlantic Records. It was the band's first album to feature guitarist Steve Howe, who replaced Peter Banks in 1970, as well as their last to feature keyboardist Tony Kaye until 1983's 90125. The album was the first by the band not to feature any cover versions of songs. The band spent mid-1970 writing and rehearsing new material at a farmhouse at Romansleigh, Devon, and the new songs were. The Remembering. All our thoughts, impressions, knowledge, fears, have been developing for millions of years. What we can relate to is our own past, our own life, our own history. Here, it is especially Rick's keyboards which bring alive the ebb and flow and depth of our mind's eye the topographic ocean. Hopefully we should appreciate that given points in time are not so significant as the nature of what is impressed on the mind, and how it is retained and used. Side two of Yes 1973 album Tales From Topographic Oceans is The Remembering, High the Memory. This Jon Anderson, Steve Howe composition represents a journey embodied by a trip on the seas, with the movements incorporated in the song being the currents and flows of the water. Every member of Yes contributed to the arrangements and drummer Alan White is said to have provided many of the songs musical passages. The track starts with a calm flow driven by Jon Andersons chant-like vocals, and quickly builds as the water becomes more turbulent.
